SafeDesk announced SafeDesk Terminal Server 3.2 (STS 3.2), the newest version of SafeDesk's popular community Linux thin-client distribution, is now available. STS 3.2 is the latest version created in full partnership with the open source community, and it provides everything a user needs to configure and deploy traditional thin or multi-media capable PC's for most operating systems. STS 3.2 is available for free download or in a convenient packaged media kit.
"SafeDesk and the Debian-Live community have created a Linux-based product that will interest both current thin-client users as well as those exploring its capabilities within their enterprise," said Phil Autrey, President of SafeDesk. "STS 3.2 provides the latest in PC over IP technology and enables organizations to provide a completely robust PC experience to users with the manageability of completely disk-less appliances. With the capability of serving streaming media, hosting peripheral devices and the flexibility to deploy a variety of operating systems simultaneously STS 3.2 is a significant step for those interested in reducing their desktop management costs without sacrificing performance."
STS 3.2, powered by Debian, the Debian Live Project and Ubuntu's Casper framework, contains the latest in open source innovations. It provides a complete desktop experience for new Linux users, including the new OpenOffice.org office productivity suite, a web browser, multimedia tools and graphical software. It supports administrator-added software allowing, for example, an IM client to be installed. The enhancements over previous releases include improved hardware compatibility, support for netbooting using either NFS or CIFS and significantly enhanced boot-times for clients of all types.
