Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Cisco To Deploy Palamida's Flagship IP Management Solution
Frees Cisco Developers From Manual Methods of Software License and IP Verification

"We are pleased to have Palamida as a new component in our development environment," said Sherman Chu, Director, Licensing and Technology, Cisco Systems, as it was today announced that Cisco will deploy Palamida's IP AMPlifier  product for automatically detecting, managing and reporting on software intellectual property (IP) assets.

"Cisco has long recognized the importance of intellectual property, and our move to automated tools for software IP management underscores that," Chu added.

The multi-year deal is believed to be the largest of its kind to date in the new market for automated IP management and compliance.

"Automated compliance and license management accelerates the assembly and creation of intellectual property based on open source and third-party components," said Mark Tolliver, CEO, Palamida. "We look forward to the Palamida IP AMPlifier becoming a valued part of Cisco's development process."

The Palamida IP AMPlifier consists of two key modules - the Compliance Library and the Detector. Using an advanced, automated collection system, the Compliance Library contains billions of source code snippets and millions of files of the most commonly used open source products found in the market.

Both the Detector and Compliance Library modules rely on CodeRank technology. CodeRank combats false-positive identifications through advanced logic that identifies and prioritizes code matches from terabytes of the most commonly used components on the market.

With the Detector module, users can determine component license requirements and assess all required obligations. The module analyzes binary code, source code, images, icons, archives, XML and text documents for licensing issues and lets users share component, license and metadata information. As a result, users receive a company-wide overview of all IP assets and licensing obligations.

"With the IP AMPlifier, Cisco is freeing developers from the drudgery and inefficiencies of manual methods of software license and IP verification, so that they can focus on more creative tasks," added Tolliver.
