Concurrent has a new version of its RedHawk Linux. RedHawk 5.2 was developed to address particular needs in real-time application development. New features include an enhanced industry standard Linux kernel (2.6.26); multi-platform synchronization; advanced memory shielding; and support for the latest x86 CPUs and chipsets. It also supports the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) standard and offers improved application performance on Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA) platforms. PTP is an IEEE time-transfer standard that provides for very precise synchronization of multiple systems on a network. Using Concurrent’s high-quality clock, RedHawk Linux PTP support can provide accuracy in the tens of microseconds without costly special networking hardware. Applications that require such precision include engine tests and the simulation and control systems prevalent in the aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial control and telecommunications industries. The widgetry is also compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 for developer productivity and application portability and supports the latest Nvidia graphics drivers to achieve maximum determinism during image rendering. RedHawk Linux is included with all Concurrent iHawk real-time multiprocessors, ImaGen visual servers and MediaHawk Content Delivery Systems. It is also available as a software-only product.
