Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

vmSight Version 4.0 Provides End User Experience Assurance for Desktop Virtualization
New Cross-Platform Version Delivers End-to-end View of Key Performance Indicators and Combines Monitoring with Control

vmSight announced the release of version 4.0 of its flagship product, vmSight. The cross-platform solution gives administrators true end-to-end monitoring of end user experience for virtual desktops and virtual applications, vmSight 4.0 also delivers a full range of capabilities for response and control.

The vmSight solution leverages patented Connector ID technology to provide the same capability for computer networks that Caller ID provides for phone networks, enabling the user experience to be monitored and controlled end-to-end. vmSight allows virtualization administrators to see and control end user experience. vmSight 4.0 includes the following key new capabilities:

  • End-to-end view of user experience – monitor user and application activity within the virtual machine (VM) guests, across the virtual and physical network, and down to the SAN. Discover and map user transactions and application dependencies. vmSight is the only solution that provides this full level of visibility per user for all applications.
  • Enhanced response and control – vmSight now includes fully customizable alerts, support for SNMP and web service alerts. It also delivers the auto-creation of help desk tickets and the ability to auto-migrate VMs, provision or de-provision VMs, or reallocate VM resources based on alerts.
  • Fully cross-platform – vmSight provides end user experience assurance across VMware, Citrix and Virtual Iron platforms, with announced plans to support Microsoft Hyper-V by end of 2008. Administrators can monitor and control end user experience across platforms from a single vmSight Center console.

Support for virtual desktops, virtual applications, and cloud computing – release 4.0 is the first solution for end user experience assurance that covers virtual desktop platforms such as VMware VDI and Citrix XenDesktop, on-demand hosted application delivery platforms such as Citrix XenApp or Microsoft Terminal Services, application virtualization delivery systems such as Microsoft App-V, VMware ThinApp and Symantec Altiris SVS, and applications delivered through cloud computing.

“At VIRTERA, we work directly with enterprises that are actively engaged in the virtualization of desktops and applications using a variety of platforms and technologies,” stated Daniel Beveridge, Director of Virtualization Strategy at leading consulting company VIRTERA. “vmSight is ahead of its time in addressing the critical problem of managing end user experience, and we often use their product as part of our services delivery to our clients.”

“We are at the beginning of a transformation in end user computing – one that involves the convergence of virtual desktops, virtualized applications and cloud computing,” said Jonathan Alexander, president and co-founder of vmSight. “This creates new challenges to ensure a good end user experience. vmSight 4.0 is the only solution that focuses on this problem and provides the full set of capabilities across technologies and platforms that administrators need.”

vmSight 4.0 includes fully customizable alerts, customizable and scheduled reports, and the ability to automate administrative response. vmSight’s extensive user tracking also makes it a strong solution to validate security or regulatory compliance and to control VM sprawl. vmSight solutions are designed for organizations implementing virtual desktops or virtual applications, and for providers of Desktop-as-a-Service and cloud computing.
