Fortisphere announced that it has adopted the Open Virtual Machine Format (OVF), a standardized hypervisor-neutral specification for the packaging and distribution of one or more virtual machines. By adopting OVF, Fortisphere will provide its customers with the ability to interoperate its Virtual Essentials product suite across multiple vendor platforms efficiently and securely.

Created by leading virtualization vendors, OVF is an initiative to enable efficient, flexible and secure distribution of enterprise software. It facilitates the mobility of virtual machines and enables customers to deploy an OVF formatted virtual machine on the virtualization platform of their choice. In addition, OVF supports service-oriented-architectures (SOA) with multiple tiers and thus can distribute multiple virtual machines simultaneously.
