Internap Network Services Corporation announced its Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Managed Server solutions are helping to scale the rising demand of social Web collaboration and interactivity by powering Slingpage. Currently in open beta for the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox Web browsers, Slingpage relies on Internap to deliver robust, scalable and reliable network and hosting services.
Launched in June 2008, Slingpage is a free social browsing application that helps people discover and share the Web instantly. With one click from the browser, Slingers can share Web pages with a single friend or thousands of followers – direct to the desktop. Slingers can also follow like-minded individuals and browse popular Web pages shared by others. Slingpage represents a portable social graph where users interact with friends and followers as they browse and enjoy real-time access to a personalized social discovery feed.
“With the help of Internap’s CDN and Managed Server solutions, we are transforming Web surfing from an individual activity to an interactive community experience,” said Ryan Stephens, CTO and co-founder for Slingpage. “As Slingpage continues to grow, Internap’s solutions will allow us to efficiently scale while ensuring a reliable user experience.”
Integrated with media servers, enhanced storage, virtualization technology, network acceleration and route optimization, Internap’s CDN solutions deliver, manage and monetize media content for Slingpage. Patented MIRO (Managed Internet Routing Optimizer) technology embedded in the CDN provides automated Internet performance monitoring and intelligent routing, ensuring the best Internet performance for slinging. Internap’s Managed Server using Dell PowerEdge servers running Microsoft Windows Server or Red Hat Linux, are fully integrated with the CDN as well, supplying Slingpage with enterprise quality performance and reliability.
“Slingpage is opening a new paradigm for the Internet by enhancing the individual user experience with real-time community interaction,” said Tim Sullivan, chief technology officer at Internap. “As Slingpage’s innovative social browsing application is embraced by Internet users, Internap’s CDN and Managed Server will deliver the performance, reliability and scalability to support their growing business.”
