Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

NextIO Announces I/O Virtualization Platform - Adaptive Connect
Patented Technology Provides Any-to-Any I/O Connectivity to Boost Performance, Availability and Reliability

NextIO announced its Adaptive Connect platform providing a comprehensive I/O solution for today’s dynamic data center. The Adaptive Connect platform gives organizations the largest breadth of choice for any-to-any connectivity without the need to change existing infrastructure and lays the foundation for “cloud compute and storage” environments. Giving customers “I/O choice without infrastructure change,” provides savings, flexibility and manageability, while protecting existing infrastructure investments.

Built on standard, existing PCI Express technology, the Adaptive Connect platform supports any server, operating system, hypervisor, application to any I/O device for true heterogeneous support. This means protecting existing investments and future proofing for choices ahead. With Adaptive Connect’s virtualization capabilities, I/O can be shared and dynamically allocated to any application delivering capacity-on-demand resulting in optimal performance for applications and the highest-level of availability and reliability to ensure business continuity. Adaptive Connect delivers unprecedented capabilities in scalability, with I/O and server resources that can be scaled independently for potential 50-70% savings in capital, power, and space. Furthermore, Adaptive Connect leverages a mature and existing PCI Express ecosystem that delivers tried and tested software.

“NextIO is providing seamless connectivity to any industry standard endpoint or device. This any-to-any connectivity, in effect, heralds the obsolescence of fixed I/O infrastructures. The Adaptive Connect platform directly addresses the manageability and flexibility demands of data centers in many different sectors. These include applications such as high-bandwidth HD video, vector processing and financial modeling, Web2.0 data center virtualization, and many others, including emerging cloud compute and storage environments,” said David Hill, Mesabi Group.

The Adaptive Connect platform is based on 2nd generation I/O Virtualization (IOV) silicon that delivers unsurpassed performance of 500Gbps. In addition, the solution enables today’s I/O adapters and devices to be shared by one or more physical or virtual machines. Another major component is the advanced integrated software for end-to-end I/O management delivering greater performance, reliability, and availability. The integrated platform includes features to dynamically allocate, configure on the fly, and monitor I/O resources based on multiple technologies and vendors. This architecture incorporates industry standard user interfaces for integration with standard management solutions saving users’ time and money.

“Our Adaptive Connect platform delivers I/O choice without infrastructure change and that means expansion and virtualization of all I/O,” said K.C. Murphy, CEO of NextIO. “Organizations no longer need to hedge their bets on which I/O technology will win in the long run. Our customers can bring in solutions that will mean savings on day one and bring in new technology without taking on unnecessary risk.”
