Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Research Center Chooses Attune Systems for their File Virtualization Solution
Attune Systems and Cambridge Computer Deliver File Management Solution to Address Storage Reporting and Capacity Planning

Attune Systems and Cambridge Computer announced that Vanderbilt's Mass Spectrometry Research Center (MSRC), a core facility for research and clinical infrastructure serving the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has chosen the Attune Systems file management solution. The MSRC has selected the Maestro File Manager in a high-availability cluster configuration to address the center's need to improve the usage of their existing storage environment and enhance their planning based on their increasing requirements for more cost-effective storage.

"The Attune Systems Maestro File Manager addressed our specific needs of file level assessment in addition to providing actionable results through their policy engine," said Scott Sobecki, Informatics Manager for the center. "The Maestro's ability to create a centralized storage pool from multiple server shares will greatly ease our ability to respond to changing storage needs, as well as let us transparently relocate data from servers that are coming off warranty."

"Most customers find that forty percent or more of their files haven't been touched in over six months and over thirty percent are suspected duplicate files. This represents terabytes of wasted and unproductive storage on expensive, high-performance systems. Vanderbilt's Mass Spectrometry Research Center will quickly benefit from the latest file virtualization solutions with the Maestro File Manager in their efforts to augment their storage capacity planning," said Alan Kessler, Attune's chief executive officer. "Learning what they don't know about their storage environment is the number one driver for customers purchasing our file management solution. Once they better understand the makeup of the files in their storage infrastructure, our file virtualization technology delivers reduced complexity and operating costs - real and immediate value when IT budgets are under pressure."

"Cambridge Computer prides itself in recognizing talent when it comes to emerging technologies. We believe that Attune's Maestro File Manager offers a unique value proposition to clients like the Vanderbilt Mass Spectrometry Research Center. Attune both assesses and solves Windows file management problems, all in one easy-to-use platform. This translates to immediate ROI," said Deena Berton, Chief Executive Officer Cambridge Computer. "We are very grateful to Attune for their support on this project and we are excited to be working with them in the future."
