Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Scrapboy Brings Facebook to Users' Desktops
IM-like Application Keeps Users Connected, Making Notifications Immediate and Secure

Scrapboy Digital Media Corporation announced the availability of Scrapboy, its Facebook desktop application, to users in North America. Scrapboy allows users to stay connected with their friends’ Facebook activities on their desktops and store those activities securely on the users’ computers, not a remote server.

“Most people have lots of friends in their Facebook profile, but we all have an inner circle of friends that we stay closer to. These are people that we want to chat with during the day, share photos with and invite to our events and parties. Scrapboy helps Facebook users create that inner circle of friends and track their notifications live on their desktop,” comments Assaf Koren, President and CEO, Scrapboy Digital Media. “We believe Scrapboy extends how people live their lives to their Facebook world by letting them stay continually connected to the people they are closest to.”

In one easy step, users download and install the application on their computer. Once installed, just like an Instant Messaging application, users sign in and Scrapboy delivers live updates.

In addition to making Facebook immediate and its content secure to users, Scrapboy have added the following features:

  • Control: users can set who they want to receive updates from and what kinds of updates they want from each friend – for example, tagged photos, events and status updates. This helps users stay closer to their inner circle of friends.
  • Chat without a browser: a true IM experience and users can even share videos in the IM chat window.
  • Event reminders: users can customize when they would like to receive event reminders – a month, a week, or a day away.
  • One step removed – no longer: in Scrapboy you can see notifications of public conversations within friends and be the first to see photos you have been tagged in (helping you to untag the photo if need be, before your other friends see it).

Scrapboy is also available to MySpace and Google Orkut users and can be downloaded at www.scrapboy.com, at Facebook and download.com.

For more information on Scrapboy contact Asa Zanatta, azanatta@spiritcommunications.ca at SPIRIT Communications.
