Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Quest Software's JProbe Now Available as Eclipse Plug-In
Enriches Eclipse with Java Profiling and Joins Open Source Development Foundation

Quest Software announced the latest release of its Java profiler, JProbe 8.0, which is now offered as a plug-in to the Eclipse Java Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The release of this capability aligns with the increased adoption of the open source development. Launching JProbe in an Eclipse environment enables users to adopt continuous performance testing best practices.

“JProbe has always been my favorite profiler, primarily because of the way it allows me to see the impact of each line of code that I write,” said Carl Rosenberger, chief software architect, DB4Objects, Inc. “I am very excited at how the new Eclipse version integrates profiling directly into the integrated development environment to make the user experience even better.”

JProbe 8.0 allows Eclipse Java IDE users to identify and resolve memory and code coverage issues and develop high-quality, production-ready applications through JProbe’s Eclipse plug-in. In the coming months, Quest plans to add performance analysis capabilities to its Eclipse plug-in to allow users to investigate performance bottlenecks without having to leave their Eclipse environment.

JProbe 8.0 has the performance test automation and reporting capabilities found in previous versions of JProbe, but now features an enhanced user interface. JProbe 8.0 maintains Quest’s tradition of providing unparalleled breadth and depth of analysis capabilities that make it such a strong market choice.

In conjunction with its latest JProbe release, Quest has joined the Eclipse Foundation to expand its support of the Eclipse platform. “The Eclipse Foundation is comprised of a large group of technology vendors, research institutions and universities, and individuals that focus on the advancement of the Eclipse platform,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director, Eclipse Foundation. “The network of forward-thinking companies that make up the Foundation are vital to the current and future state of Eclipse, and we are certain that Quest will be a valuable addition.”

Developers who use the Eclipse Java IDE can get a taste of JProbe 8.0 with a freeware version that offers heap dump analysis for Sun and IBM Java virtual machines (JVMs).
