Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

MyEclipse 6.5 Blue Edition: Next-Generation ALM and Open Source Development for WebSphere
Adds Maven2, Spring, Hibernate, JAX -WS Web Services and RAD/WSAD Project Migration

Genuitec announced the availability of MyEclipse 6.5 Blue Edition; a next-generation ALM and open source-friendly IDE for WebSphere.

Of note, users will be drawn to multiple technologies not currently supported by IBM's RAD, such as Maven4MyEclipse (a professional implementation of Maven2), popular open source mainstays such as Spring, Hibernate, JPA, the Matisse Swing GUI Designer and more. In 6.5, users will also have the ability to run multiple WebSphere server instances, migrate WSAD/RAD projects to MyEclipse Blue Edition and enjoy WebSphere 6.0 portal server support. These advanced features offer organizations maximum flexibility to manage the entire application life-cycle with the infrastructure they already have.

“We're very pleased to be able to offer WebSphere developers more depth in their use of MyEclipse Blue from an ALM perspective,” said Wayne Parrott, vice president of product development for Genuitec. “In particular, Maven4MyEclipse and WebSphere Portal support will provide intuitive ways for companies to manage a project's build and maintain the entire project's life cycle in ways RAD does not currently support on its own.”

One of many user-requested features for MyEclipse included in 6.5, Maven4MyEclipse is a “1-Click,” ready-to-run implementation of the Maven project management and build service for MyEclipse. Since RAD does not currently support Maven and other OSS technologies such as Spring and Hibernate, WebSphere developers approached Genuitec to offer them in MyEclipse Blue Edition.

For maximum flexibility with these features, MyEclipse 6.5 Blue Edition supports WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.x and 5.x with integration connectors, including WebSphere Portal 6.0. Users of WSAD or RAD on these application server versions can now utilize all of Blue's features, and for maximum efficiency can migrate their RAD projects to MyEclipse Blue Edition, if desired.

Overall notable enhancements to this release include: JSR 168 Portlets support, addition of Maven 2 support for Web, EJB and Java Projects, advanced deployment modes for J2EE/JEE projects, WebSphere-compatible Web Services support and the latest Java EE 5 development tools for the WebSphere Application Server 6.1 with the EJB3, Web Services and Web 2.0 feature packs. As mentioned, updates to Spring IDE for MyEclipse, Hibernate Tools for MyEclipse are included, along with updates to MyEclipse's JSF/Facelets support.

MyEclipse 6.5 Blue Edition is a low-cost compliment to WSAD/RAD that is available for immediate download and free trial. As always, current subscribers have access to this release at no additional charge.
