Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

SnapLogic 2.0 Now Available as VMware Virtualization Appliance
SnapLogic 2.0 Open Source Data Integration Framework as a Free VMware Virtual Appliance

SnapLogic announced the availability of the SnapLogic 2.0 open source data integration framework as a free VMware virtual appliance. SnapLogic enables enterprises to securely distribute core IT data to business users and to create enterprise mashups and rich Internet applications (RIAs) from a wide variety of data sources. The SnapLogic virtual appliance enables VMware users to deploy SnapLogic 2.0, pre-configured and ready to run, in minutes, simplifying installation, eliminating interoperability worries, and enabling trouble-free upgrades. The SnapLogic virtual appliance is available for both SnapLogic Community Edition and SnapLogic Professional Edition. The appliance runs on VMware Player, VMware Workstation, and VMware Server for Windows and Linux, and VMware Fusion for the Mac.

Free downloads of the virtual appliance are available at http://www.snaplogic.com/vmware.

"Our new VMware virtual appliance enables developers to deploy SnapLogic in minutes and to begin using it immediately," said Chris Marino, chief executive officer, SnapLogic. "All VMware users can now deploy SnapLogic without purchasing any new equipment or even reconfiguring their existing servers."

Really Simple Integration
SnapLogic 2.0 enables "Really Simple Integration," a new approach to data integration that leverages RESTful Web technology to provide agile data integration solutions for business IT groups. Really Simple Integration enables enterprises to make data from databases, SaaS applications, SOA Web services, and other common data sources readily available for use by business analysts and other business users. In the Really Simple Integration paradigm, knowledge workers use familiar tools, including Web browsers, Google, and Excel, to discover, consume, transform, and publish enterprise data, creating a virtuous cycle of self-service data access and distribution.

SnapLogic Data Integration Framework
The SnapLogic data integration framework consists of a SnapLogic Server and SnapLogic Components, which perform access and transformation functions such as reading and processing data from databases, enterprise applications, XML documents, files and even web pages. SnapLogic Components are configured into SnapLogic Resources, which are linked together to form SnapLogic Pipelines. Each SnapLogic Pipeline performs a data integration task, such as reading data from a data warehouse, reformatting it, and writing it to a database. A growing collection of free SnapLogic Components and Pipelines is available at www.snaplogic.org.
