As the company transitions to be a multi-platform player, the feeling is to have management who are experts about software, the converged infrastructure market, and familiar with the players in the space. Ergo the new CEO, and ergo the new levels of backing from investors. The company is still hiring in its field and OEM spaces, and in conversations with multiple IHV partners.

Adobe Puts Out AIR for Linux
Adobe Also Joins the Linux Foundation to Encourage the Growth of RIA Technologies on Linux

Adobe has put an alpha pre-release of AIR for Linux up at www.adobe.com/go/airlinux in hopes, it says, of getting feedback from the community, not to mention winning adherents. It’s English-only.

The company also joined the Linux Foundation to encourage the growth of RIA technologies on Linux, it said.

The company says Linux developers can use HTML, AJAX, Flash and Flex to build rich Internet applications (RIAs) that deploy to desktops across operating systems.

Conversely RIA developers can put their desktop apps to Linux users without writing additional platform-specific code, giving the Linux platform access to programs previously reserved for Windows and Mac.

There is also update to the alpha version of Adobe’s Flex Builder 3 for Linux in English at www.adobe.com/go/flexbuilder_linux.

Adobe figures that between Flex, AIR and the Adobe Flash Player 9 Linux developers have a free platform for building, debugging and deploying RIAs entirely on Linux across browsers and desktops.
