As Google Launches New "Mini" Appliance, Search Gets Cheaper
Integrated Software/Hardware Appliance Offers "Twice the Search Capacity at an Even More Affordable Price," Says Google

"With more web pages, weblogs, wikis and other content, businesses of every size are having a hard time keeping track of it all," said Dave Girouard, general manager of Google's enterprise business, yesterday as Google launched an integrated hardware/software search appliance called "Google Mini."

"With Google Mini, you can help your customers and employees quickly find the information they need," Girouard continued. It comes with one year of support, software updates and hardware replacement coverage, and indexes all content within a company's intranet or public website.

After an installation process that takes only a matter of hours, Google says, users can search for information just as they do with Google.com.

The Google Mini was announced in January and is currently used by hundreds of law firms, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, consulting firms, government agencies and other small-to-medium sized businesses to access and manage their information.

"Our attorneys are continually searching for information. The Google Mini helps them find exactly what they need, when they need it, using an interface they're already familiar with," said John Neubauer, Legal Administrator for Blitman & King LLP. "With the increased capacity of the Google Mini, we will now be able to include even more legal research in our index. This will help us leverage more of our firm's valuable intellectual property, making our attorneys more efficient and more responsive to our clients."

"Mini Google" - another great brand name. Hats off to Google, they really know how to brand.

Three thousand bucks for all this seems almost too cheap. Are there any snags, anyone? Didn't it used to cost $4,995?
