Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Telelogic Fine-Tunes Its CRM Tools For Eclipse 3.0
Telelogic Fine-Tunes Its CRM Tools For Eclipse 3.0

Telelogic, the leading global provider of advanced systems solutions and software development, announced it has improved support of Telelogic SYNERGY/CM for Eclipse 3.0. The industry has been provisioned with the most advanced configuration management tool by the added support.

Telelogic SYNERGY and its CM (change management) offshoot, are considered by industry analyst firms, like Phase and OVUM, as the most advanced on the market for configuration and change management. With this latest integration, Telelogic says, its product has been made to work even more intuitively with developers working with the Eclipse platform.

Ingemar Ljungdahl, CTO at Telelogic, said, "The enhanced functionality of SYNERGY/CM integrated with Eclipse underlines our responsiveness to the expectations of both the open source community and of our customers who require advanced configuration management functionality, especially for large, globally distributed development teams." He added that the company has a history supporting open source development. "As a member of the Eclipse Foundation, Telelogic has long demonstrated its commitment to open development platforms and integration of our best in class solutions."

This latest version of SYNERGY supports Eclipse 2.1.3, Eclipse 3.0, and IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer 5.1. Telelogic plans to validate integration with IBM Rational Application Developer later. The integration is supported on the Windows and RedHat Linux platforms.

New features for Eclipse include the capacity to define multiple database connections, which means each Eclipse project can be connected to a database. All dialogues, except for CM graphical history, are now native to Eclipse.

Developers have been given even more ways to improve control of their development, through faster refresh rates and improved functionality of the repository view.

All of these integrated improvements, significant in their own right, are designed so groups can work more productively in team-based environments. Sharing and reuse of objects among individual users, large teams, and multiple projects also becomes easier.

Ljungdahl recognized the cooperative spirit of the project, noting that development was molded by listening to users. He said, "We listened to SYNERGY/CM users that work with the Eclipse platform and have included many of their suggestions in this latest integration. These enhancements make our configuration management solution considerably easier to use in an Eclipse environment and unlock the full value of using SYNERGY/CM and Eclipse together."

Mike Milinkovich, executive director of Eclipse Foundation, praised Telelogic's active role in the project. "From the beginning, Telelogic has been closely involved and the company's commitment to the open source community is reflected in the integration of SYNERGY and other Telelogic tools with Eclipse."

I like Eclipse, but I am pleased to see this supports WebSphere too.
