Larry Waits For BEA To Report Q3 Results November 15

Ellison wants to buy; Icahn wants to sell

(November 2, 2007) - November 15, BEA will report its financial results for the third quarter, with investors having the opportunity to listen to its financial results conference call over the Internet. Both Larry Ellison and Carl Icahn will doubtless be waiting with considerable interest. Ellison wants to buy; Icahn wants to sell.

The Board of Directors of BEA, on the other hand, wants a better price that Oracle's $6.7BN offer, which has in any case now expired.

Alfred Chuang (pictured) may be hoping that, as Oracle did when pursuing PeopleSoft, the offer price will go up.

Icahn on the other hand has already taken the Board to task, saying: "I view your public declaration of a $21 per share 'take it or leave it' price as a management entrenchment tactic, not a negotiating technique."

One analyst, Argus Research's Bob Becker, has been quoted as saying: "There's a 60% chance Oracle will buy BEA for $18.50 a share by second-quarter 2008."
