Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Keynote Systems Introduces AJAX-Based Testing Tool for Rich Web 2.0 Sites
Keynote Internet Testing Environment (KITE) records, edits, and analyzes site performance

Keynote Systems has introduced an accurate Internet testing environment for recording and measuring the performance of Web 2.0 applications at all stages of the life cycle. Keynote’s Internet Testing Environment (KITE) is a desktop-based console that enables developers and testing professionals, from their own desktop, to test and measure the end-user experience of next generation Web applications including AJAX-based applications and asynchronously downloaded content. All transactions recorded via KITE can also be deployed on the new Transaction Perspective 8.0 and Application Perspective 5.0 measurement computers that utilize Keynote’s global test and measurement network.

KITE is designed to bridge the gap between developers, testing professionals and Web operations teams by including an embedded version of the Transaction Perspective 8.0 and Application Perspective 5.0 measurement software in the KITE console. Web application developers and testing professionals now have point and click access to a consistent testing and measurement platform using Keynote’s True Experience technology for the entire application life cycle. KITE enables Web developers to execute rapid performance analysis and validation – as if it was provisioned on the Keynote external Web monitoring infrastructure – directly on their desktops. This reduces the script validation time and enables Web developers to fix application code before sending it into production.

Through more accurate visibility into the performance of Web 2.0 applications, Web operations teams can more precisely pinpoint the location of a problem and provide context to the development team regarding application errors identified in production. In addition, KITE allows users to:

  • Detect page completion automatically for asynchronous content (programmed in AJAX)
  • Record and script specific critical elements and events
  • Group and categorize measurements with a customizable user interface
  • Utilize industry-standard JavaScript as the Web transaction scripting language
  • Download transaction times, page-level network content details, and order/dependency details through Keynote’s on-demand performance diagnostic tool

Keynote’s on-demand delivery model allows customers to begin measuring their site performance and resolve critical problems immediately right from their desktops by accessing their MyKeynote portal. Keynote’s on-demand delivery also eliminates the need for software installations and ongoing maintenance headaches. Keynote offers customers the ability to access measurements 24/7 and the flexibility to modify, add and delete measurements as needed. Customers can also view their account online, track their usage real-time, and project future spending.

KITE will be available in January 2008 for free download to current Keynote customers at www.keynote.com.
