(July 28, 2003) - Analyzing the runtime behavior of Java applications has always been a mystery. Existing tools try to give a glimpse, but fall short on accuracy and usefulness, especially when trying to analyze their real-time behavior. The BEA WebLogic JRockit engineering team has developed a capability within the WebLogic JRockit JVM that captures and allows users to analyze the actual runtime characteristics of Java applications. Since this capability is built into the WebLogic JRockit JVM, it offers the truest possible picture of the application's behavior without introducing any significant distortions or overheads.

The JRockit Runtime Analyzer capability has been used internally by WebLogic JRockit developers to refine and improve the JVM. Realizing the tool's tremendous value, BEA is now making it available publicly, for free, so that anyone can use it to analyze their own Java applications. In return, BEA asks for one favor... to help further improve the WebLogic JRockit JVM. BEA asks users to send an e-mail to jrockit-improve@bea.com with an attachment of the file (in zip format) containing the recording from your own application along with a brief description of that application.

The JRockit Runtime Analyzer tool is not intended or designed to be a comprehensive application profiling tool. While it may provide some interesting information, it has not been developed with the conveniences and features that may be expected by end users. But BEA welcomes ideas for further enhancements.
