Appeon 2.5 for PowerBuilder to Enable Rapid Client/Server-to-Web Application Deployment

(July 2, 2003) - Sybase, Inc. has announced Appeon™ 2.5 for PowerBuilder, the first comprehensive solution of its kind to allow IT departments to quickly and easily deploy critical client/server applications to the Web. This low-risk, comprehensive solution allows IT departments to dramatically reduce the time and costs associated with bringing development code to market. Appeon 2.5 for PowerBuilder enables developers to build an entire Web application using PowerBuilder source code. With it, PowerBuilder can be used to develop new and maintain existing applications, with the option to deploy these applications either to client/server architecture or Web architecture, or both. Appeon technology automatically replicates the highly interactive client/server user interface with HTML, eliminating page-by-page manual rewrites for the Web required by J2EE or .NET solutions. The user interface of Web applications generated with Appeon 2.5 for PowerBuilder provides the productivity of the original PowerBuilder environment, while eliminating user re-training time and associated expenses. Developers using this solution will have greater flexibility to address changing business needs and application requirements, without inconveniencing business users with system maintenance and upgrades. Appeon 2.5 for PowerBuilder includes Appeon Developer and Appeon Server. Appeon Developer, a PowerBuilder plug-in, extends the PowerBuilder IDE with a workbench for generating and deploying Web applications from client/server PowerBuilder source code. Appeon Server enables the run-time environment that delivers a PowerBuilder-style graphical user interface within standard Web browsers, and provides run-time services for the deployed Web application, such as security, load balancing, database connectivity, transaction management, DataWindow support, and printing support. Appeon 2.5 for PowerBuilder is available now.
