Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

XMLSPY 5 Release 4 Offers New Features to Simplify Customized XML Content and Data Editing Applications
XMLSPY 5 Release 4 Offers New Features to Simplify Customized XML Content and Data Editing Applications

(April 8, 2003) – XMLSPY 5 Release 4 is now available from Altova. Presently, organizations are engaging in the development of customized XML content editing and data-entry applications which help increase the reusability of corporate information assets, resulting in greater productivity and cost savings in creating business content. Altova has enhanced key features in its XML Development Environment, XMLSPY 5, which are commonly required in creating customized XML content and data editing applications. The new version of XMLSPY is available immediately for free trial download.

XMLSPY 5 builds on the success of previous versions through the addition of:

  • Enhanced WebDAV Support - Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) is a standardized set of extensions to the HTTP (web) protocol, which allows users to collaboratively edit and manage XML files located on remote web-servers. XMLSPY 5 and AUTHENTIC 5 now support Delta-V (http://www.webdav.org/deltav/), an extension to the WebDAV protocol which enables check-in/check-out functionality when used in conjunction with a WebDAV server, thus supporting XML content editing in a truly collaborative, distributed environment, such as the Web.

  • Stylesheet Designer Enhancements – Business users creating and editing XML content don't edit raw XML files, rather they are presented with a user-friendly template layout which hides the complexities of the underlying XML technologies. Customized templates used in any XML content editing application are created visually through the use of a Stylesheet Designer which is included in XMLSPY 5 (Enterprise and Professional Edition) and STYLEVISION 5. The Stylesheet Designer now includes support for direct usage of global templates, support for conditional statements in Stylesheet Designer, as well as support for PDF Header/Footer/Cover pages, allowing for more customized template layouts and content outputs.

  • Enhanced Code Generation – Building any customized XML content editing application requires coding of an XML Binding, which is a mapping of XML content to a set of related software objects, allowing for programmatic access to XML documents from within a customized software application. This is a tedious and error prone task. The XMLSPY code generator now supports output code which uses Xerces (a popular XML parser), Standard Template Library (STL), and additional support of XML Schema simple types in Java/C# code generation.

XMLSPY 5 Release 4 is available immediately for free trial download at www.altova.com/order. Existing XMLSPY 5 customers who have purchased a support and maintenance plan are eligible for a free upgrade. See the website for the complete price list.
