Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Borland Speeds Development of Web Services and Wireless Applications with New Java Technologies
Borland Speeds Development of Web Services and Wireless Applications with New Java Technologies

(June 18, 2002) - Borland Software Corporation announced the availability of Borland® Web Services Kit for Java™ and Borland® JBuilder™ MobileSet 3 for integration into the recently released Borland® JBuilder 7. Borland's new development enable developers to create and integrate Web services and deliver high-quality applications for mobile and wireless platforms all from one central development environment. To support innovation through the emerging wireless and Web services markets, Borland offers these new technologies as free downloads at www.borland.com/products/downloads.

"The latest Web Services Kit for Java and JBuilder MobileSet underscore Borland's commitment to provide developers with the most current standards-based development environments at the earliest possible moment," said Tony de la Lama, vice president and general manager of Java solutions for Borland. "By integrating these new products into JBuilder 7, Borland allows developers to capitalize on the power of Web services and create complex applications for wireless devices faster and at a lower cost."

Designed for integration with Borland JBuilder 7, Borland Web Services Kit for Java simplifies the development of Web services based on SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, and WS-Inspection. The latest Web Services Kit for Java has been updated to adhere to the current version of the evolving standards and technology developments of both Java and Web services. It reduces time and complexity of developing and deploying Web services.

JBuilder MobileSet 3 is a J2ME™-compliant environment that supports software development in devices enabled for Java. MobileSet 3 keeps developers current with the latest J2ME standards, including the recently released J2ME Wireless Toolkit 1.0.4 from Sun Microsystems®. In addition to devices supported by Nokia and Siemens, MobileSet 3 adds direct support for the Sprint PCS® Wireless Toolkit™.

Borland Web Services Kit for Java is available immediately and MobileSet 3 will be released later this month. Both can be used with JBuilder 7 Personal, but require purchase of JBuilder 7 Enterprise or JBuilder 7 SE for commercial application development.
