Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Azul Systems Leverages Network with SOA Approach
Network Attached Processing Delivers Massive Amounts of Processing and Memory

Azul Systems says "the trend of Web services is growing tremendously" as businesses deploy composite Web services to link existing systems via SOAs. New services drive up workload demand, put strain on existing resources, and if not deployed correctly, can lead to poor customer response times, though, "diminishing the value originally sought by these efforts," Azul says.

Azul is thus working with both established enterprises as well as market leading up-and-comers in this emerging sector, transparently delivering massive amounts of processing and memory to transaction-hungry applications as a shared network service.

Azul calls this approach network attached processing. The Azul solution is enabling large enterprises and system integrators to fully leverage web services and SOA and deliver on the promise of utility, grid, and on-demand computing strategies.

Pegasus Solutions, Inc. books revenue from reservations and other key services with the world's leading hotel chains, running more than 1,000,000,000 “looks” per month on Azul Compute Appliances, ensuring the highest levels of throughput, and ultimately availability of rooms to be booked. By using Azul, this online services company has reduced its server foot print, power consumption and management complexity. See how by reading the Pegasus Case Study.

Another Azul client, Selectica Inc., a provider of product configuration software, delivers its features to Salesforce.com users via its Fastraq service. This memory and CPU-hungry service is now deployed on Azul Compute Appliances, providing all customers with fast response time assurance regardless of workload variances. Read more about Selectica's sales execution and contract management solutions are being powered by network attached processing.
