Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Java Developer's Journal Announces Its Annual Linux Focus Issue for January and Oracle Developer Supplement for March
JDJ's January Issue Provides Highest Targeted Circulation for Java and Linux Advertisers, Including a Bonus Distribution at Linu

MONTVALE, NJ--(INTERNET WIRE)--Nov 14, 2002 -- SYS-CON Media headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey, announced today that the January issue of Java Developer's Journal will be JDJ's annual "Java & Linux" focus issue. As part of its 2003 editorial calendar, Java Developer's Journal will also include an "Oracle Developer Supplement" with its March 2003 issue.

"In December, JDJ's most recent six-month average print circulation is expected to be over 110,000 copies," said Carmen Gonzalez, executive vice president of sales and marketing at SYS-CON Media. "More than 80% of our readership is made up of Java professionals who work with Java and Linux or Java and Unix, Sun Solaris, UnixWare, and other Linux/Unix--related technologies. Last year, JDJ's Linux Focus Issue was one of the most popular issues we ever printed. We anticipate the same with our January 2003 issue." (www.sys-con.com/linux/)

"Our annual Java & Linux Focus issues circulate as collectible issues of Java Developer's Journal," said Miles Silverman, vice president of sales and marketing at SYS-CON Media. "In addition to serving our current advertising partners, who are among the top Java technology providers in the world, the January issue of Java Developer's Journal will also serve as the most significant advertising medium of the year for all Linux vendors." (www.sys-con.com/java/advertise.cfm)

Today's announcement is in line with SYS-CON's proven capacity for anticipating coming i-technology industry changes: industry experts confidently predict that by just 2004, 90% of large enterprises will use open-source software and that Linux will become the commercial world's dominant operating system.

IBM claims that no fewer than 33,000 Windows- and Intel-based third-party and corporate developers already work with the Eclipse-based version of IBM's WebSphere Studio toolkit, and that between them they have already created more than 4,000 critical-class applications. Oracle already runs on it, making it a key platform for Oracle databases. In short, Linux has evolved to the point where an ever-increasing number of industry heavyweights now embrace it.

This latest Focus Issue announcement from the world's leading i-technology publisher comes, appropriately enough, in a week in which America's most successful technology CEO, Michael Dell of Dell Computer Corporation, noted at the OracleWorld event in San Francisco that "Linux use is predicted to increase 35% compounded annually until 2006." As Dell's chairman put it: "We think that Linux is the new Unix."

As part of its 2003 editorial calendar, SYS-CON Media also announced today that Java Developer's Journal will include an "Oracle Developer Supplement" with its March 2003 issue. (www.syscon.com/java/oracleradio/radio.cfm)
