Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

SYS-CON's Java Developer's Journal Circulation Ranks # 1 in the World, Exceeding All Other i-Technology Magazines
JDJ's Average Monthly Circulation of More Than 162,000* Copies Reaches More Readers Than Dr. Dobb's, MSDN, Visual Studio, Window

(Montvale, NJ, September 12, 2003) - SYS-CON Media, the world's leading i-technology publisher, today announced that Java Developer's Journal's (JDJ) six-month average monthly circulation through June 2003 is expected to exceed 162,000* copies.

Java Developer's Journal debuted eight years ago and quickly became the leading i-technology magazine serving software developers, IT managers, and corporate decision makers. Right from the start, JDJ built an impressive reader base, of which 42% are i-technology managers such as CIOs, CTOs, vice presidents, chief architects, IT directors and managers, project managers, and actual decision makers. Based on the most recent readership studies, 8% of JDJ's readers have corporate management roles, such as CEO/COO/president/chairman/owner/partner, vice president, department manager, and other. The remaining 50% of JDJ readers are core software developers who strongly influence IT purchase decisions.

In January 2000, Java Developer's Journal became the first magazine in the world to create a revolutionary integrated circulation statement, tracking, and analyzing the magazine's print and online readership profiles (www.sys-con.com/2002/PR/01242000.cfm).

Over the years, JDJ's circulation team also paid close attention to the delivery preferences of its readers. Two years ago, JDJ introduced a digital subscription (www.sys-con.com/java/subscription.cfm) for its readers around the world. Today 43.6% of JDJ's paid and qualified readers prefer to receive their magazine in its identical digital format (www.sys-con.com/java/digital.cfm), 20.5% receive both digital and print editions of the magazine, and 35.9% of readers prefer to read their JDJ only in its print format or purchase it on newsstands.

Based on the most current data available from SYS-CON, 81.8% of Java Developer's Journal readers - 130,511 i-technology professionals - have qualified within the past 12 months.

In addition to its dominant reach of readers in decision-making positions, Java Developer's Journal has also been consistently ranked number 1 in independent industry surveys as "the most trusted publication" by its readers. The most recent of these awards was in 2003, from Evans Data Corporation, which ranked JDJ "Top Java Publication" in its "2003 Developer Marketing Patterns Survey."

"SYS-CON is committed to serving the readers of our 12 leading monthly i-technology magazines, as well as the new titles we will introduce this fall," said Fuat Kircaali, founder and CEO of SYS-CON Media. "Java Developer's Journal is one of our flagship titles, and we are confident that we will double our Java-based revenues in the next 12 months."

"JDJ's impressive circulation and reach is a reflection of the still-expanding success of the Java programming platform itself," said Jeremy Geelan, group publisher of SYS-CON Media. "Java Developer's Journal has established itself not only as the leading magazine for readers who are primarily involved with Java the language and Java the platform, but also as the leading i-technology publication of the industry in general."

"Over its 8-year history, JDJ has widened and deepened, completely in step with Java," said Alan Williamson, editor-in-chief of Java Developer's Journal. "Each issue of JDJ examines how and why Java is indisputably the commercial software development world's reference platform for extending and integrating additional software, consistently raising the bar for the whole industry."
