Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). SYS-CON Media and Sun Microsystems Partner at Web Services Edge 2001 International Web Services Conference & Expo East, Septembe
Sun Microsystems Will Offer Three Java Technology Certification Fast Tracks At the Largest Java and Web Services Event of the Ye

Montvale, NJ, August 6, 2001 - SYS-CON Media (www.sys-con.com) announced today the final conference program for JDJEdge 2001 International Java Developer Conference & Expo and Web Services Edge 2001 International Web Services Conference & Expo East, which will be colocated at the Hilton New York, September 23-26.

At JDJEdge 2001, Sun Microsystems will offer three Java technology certification education Fast Tracks: Java 2 Platform Programmer Certification Fast Track, Java 2 Platform Architect Certification Fast Track, and Web Component Developer Certification Fast Track. These education tracks will offer an intensive review of the topics covered on the exams for Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform, Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for the Java 2 Platform, and Sun Web Component Developer Certification. Attendees of these Fast Tracks will receive a $150 voucher to be used at a local testing center. More information on Sun's certification training offerings at JDJEdge, and the detailed program topics can be found at the conference Web site at www.sys-con.com, and in the final conference program brochure.

"We are very pleased with the opportunity to offer three accelerated Sun education tracks as part of SYS-CON's JDJEdge 2001 conference program," said Jason G. Fish, manager of business development, Americas Event Marketing Enterprise Services of Sun Microsystems. "Sun's education tracks will prove to be unmatched value for all the delegates who attend this year's conference and who are preparing for Sun's certification exams."

"As a large-scale international Java event, JDJEdge 2001 fills a big void in both the financial capital of the world and Silicon Alley," said Fuat Kircaali, founder and CEO of SYS-CON Media. "This year, JDJEdge will be colocated with SYS-CON's first annual Web Services Edge 2001 International Web Services Conference & Expo East and offer an unmatched technical program, including accelerated certification tracks for leading enterprise tools such as IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, Oracle9i, and Macromedia ColdFusion, in addition to Sun's Java Technology Certification Fast Tracks."

"Last year we closed registrations approximately one month before the conference date and turned down walk-in registration requests for the SYS-CON event that took place at the same location," said Cathy Walters, vice president of SYS-CON Events. "Although this year we doubled the conference space and increased our offerings from five to eight simultaneous tracks, we've already received more than 1,000 conference and expo registrations even before we announced the schedule and opened our online registration program."

"The JDJEdge 2001 expo floor has also been doubled in size from last year's SYS-CON event at the same location," said Grisha Davida, vice president of SYS-CON Media. "However, this year and going forward, we will extend sponsorship opportunities to companies by invitation only, since the size of the expo floor limits the number of vendors that can participate."

The final conference program for SYS-CON's East Coast "Edge" conference is being mailed this week to 1 million developers worldwide.

JDJEdge 2001 and Web Services Edge 2001 East sponsors include: Computer Associates, Togethersoft, SilverStream, Kenamea, Sitraka, Rational Software, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems.

XMLEdge 2001 and Web Services Edge 2001 West sponsors include: Computer Associates, Ados, SilverStream, Altova XML Spy, and XIAM. This year more than 150 companies will participate in SYS-CON's all-star "Edge" faculty, and as sponsors and exhibitors.
