More than 5,000 XML-J readers cast their votes to select the best XML products of the year from over 135 nominations. The polls opened on the SYS-CON.com Web site on October 1, 2000 and ran through January 31, 2001.

"Awards are given as a result of SYS-CON Media's unique and patented voting procedure, which is openly tabulated and audited for accuracy by an independent audit firm," commented Ajit Sagar, founding editor and the editor-in-chief of XML-Journal. "The results of the vote distribution could closely simulate the market share and popularity of each product as a result of wide participation by industry professionals who are among XML-Journal readers."
