Press Release SYS-CON Media Announces Linux Business & Technology Magazine Today at LinuxWorld
LBT, the First Linux Magazine Targeting a Readership of Corporate i-Technology Managers and Decision Makers, Will Be on Newsstan
Jan. 22, 2003 12:00 AM
Montvale, NJ, Jan 22, 2003 - SYS-CON Media, the world's leading publisher exclusively serving i-technology markets, announced today its newest title, Linux Business & Technology, to launch in May 2003. The first issue of LBT will be available for subscribers and on newsstands with a cover price of $5.99 (bi-pad number 02976), and will be distributed by Curtis Circulation Company, the world's largest magazine distributor. The charter U.S. subscription price for Linux Business & Technology magazine will be $49.99. "The worldwide Linux community has been waiting for a publication like Linux Business & Technology at least for the past three years and now the time has come," said Fuat Kircaali, founder and CEO of SYS-CON Media. "The magazine will complement SYS-CON's highly regarded Linux Business Week, and will serve as the leading print publication for the industry." "SYS-CON has been successfully publishing Linux Business Week (www.LinuxBusinessWeek.com), a leading Web-based weekly magazine, for the past three years," said Jeremy Geelan, editorial director of SYS-CON Media. "In that time, major corporations including IBM, Oracle, Sun, Dell, CA, and HP have all started to commit significant resources and money to ensuring their strategy for the future embraces Linux in addition to other proprietary technologies like Java." "There is no escaping the penetration of Linux into the corporate world. Traditional models are being turned on their head as the Linux, open-for-everyone, bandwagon rolls forward," said Alan Williamson, LBT's founding editor and editor-in-chief. "Linux is an operating system that has traditionally been held in the highest esteem primarily by the hardcore developers of the world, the so-called geeks. With its roots firmly seeded in the open-source model, Linux is very much born from the 'if it's broke, then fix it yourself' attitude. Now, though, Linux has arrived in the board room." What's in the Premier Issue of Linux Business & Technology? Until now, there has been no magazine or journal that explicitly addresses this new hunger for information from the corporate arena. Linux Business & Technology is aimed squarely at providing this group of enterprise decision makers with the knowledge and background to allow them to make decisions about how best to utilize the Linux operating system at the corporate level. The new SYS-CON print magazine will include each month all the essential information required to better inform the community on just how powerful a Linux alternative can be. LBT's regular columns, features, and departments will include: Linux Business & Technology will not feature low-level code snippets but instead will focus on the higher logistical level of Linux deployment. Each month will see a different focus (please see the editorial calendar), allowing a detailed analysis of all the components that make up the greater Linux landscape. Each issue of LBT will include advice on hardware and software, through to related issues such as recruiting of the trained personnel required to successfully deploy a Linux-based solution. The advertiser/media launch party for Linux Business & Technology magazine will be held today in Manhattan, after the LinuxWorld expo floor closes. Java Developer's Journal's Linux Focus issue is being distributed today and tomorrow at the LinuxWorld, where SYS-CON participates as a media sponsor of this event.
