BEA Strengthens Eclipse Commitment and Leadership in 2007
Company's Konstantin Komissarchik Elected to Eclipse Board and Jess Garms Chosen to Co-Lead WTP Project Committee; Eclipse to Pl

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EclipseCon, Booth # 302 -- Furthering its commitment to Eclipse, BEA Systems, Inc. , a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced plans to continue to ramp up its efforts and provide even greater support for the Eclipse platform over the next several months.

In conjunction with these efforts, BEA also announced today two important elections that will strengthen BEA's leadership position within Eclipse. Konstantin Komissarchik, staff software engineer at BEA and Eclipse architect, has just been elected to the Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors as a committer representative for a one year term beginning in April 2007 through April 2008. In this position, Konstantin will represent the interests of the Eclipse Committer community to the Board.

Additionally, Jess Garms, senior engineering manager at BEA has been selected by Eclipse to co-lead the popular Web Tools Platform (WTP) Project management committee. The WTP Project is an open source collaborative software development project chartered to providing a generic, extensible, standards- based tool platform for producing Web-centric applications. Since the project's inception in 2003, BEA has held a leadership position on the Project's committee and remains actively involved in committing code to WTP.

"As a long-time member and significant contributor to Eclipse, BEA has done an exemplary job to promote standards, collaboration and innovation across the community," said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director, at Eclipse Foundation. "We're pleased to announce the election of Konstantin to the Eclipse Board and Jess as co-lead of the WTP Project and are confident that each gentleman's expertise in development and leadership will provide tremendous value to the project's advancement and long-term success."

Already deeply embedded in BEA's WebLogic(R) and BEA Workshop(TM) products, Eclipse support will be extended to the company's growing AquaLogic(R) product family later this year. Just last month, BEA released Guardian(TM), the company's next-generation enterprise support service using the Eclipse RCP framework. Following are the planned product releases that will incorporate Eclipse support:

-- BEA AquaLogic BPM Designer and AquaLogic BPM Studio -- This release will help allow Eclipse users to create, manage and optimize their business processes -- from modelling through simulation and execution -- without leaving the IDE, enabling BPM projects to be completed faster and easier. -- BEA AquaLogic Service Bus 3.0 -- This release will help enable architects and developers to define, discover, orchestrate and test their services in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) within an Eclipse environment. -- BEA AquaLogic Data Service Platform 3.0 -- BEA will move all of its tooling to Eclipse in this release. It will help enable customers to build and leverage reusable components, as well as provide a common interface and user experience across different products.

BEA is rapidly normalizing on an Eclipse model for these and other products as a significant step in the evolution of WorkSpace 360(TM). Announced late last year, WorkSpace 360 is intended to fundamentally change the way both business and IT professionals collaborate and work individually across the extended enterprise. Standardizing on the Eclipse platform will enable BEA to provide customers with a common tooling experience across its multiple product lines, helping streamline workflow and foster better collaboration throughout the enterprise.

"Providing customers with an open environment in which to create innovative software and next-generation SOA, composite applications is at the heart of our blended development model, and Eclipse remains a strategic part of that," said Wai Wong, executive vice president of products at BEA Systems, Inc. "2007 will be an exciting year for BEA and its customers as we roll out innovative products that will empower and transform the way enterprise customers do business to help deliver sustainable value and positively impact the bottom-line."

Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on providing an extensible development platform and application frameworks for building software. Eclipse provides extensible tools and frameworks that span the development lifecycle, including support for modelling, language development environments for Java, C/C++, PHP and others, testing and performance, business intelligence, rich client applications and embedded development. A large, vibrant ecosystem of major technology vendors, innovative start-ups, universities and research institutions and individuals extend, complement and support the Eclipse platform. The Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit, member-supported corporation that hosts the Eclipse projects. Full details of Eclipse and the Eclipse Foundation are available at http://www.eclipse.org/.
