Kapow Technologies Opens Office in Japan
Company hires industry veteran Fred Macaraeg to seize Japanese Web 2.0 mashup software market for mobile and Internet devices

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Kapow Technologies (http://www.kapowtech.com/), the leading provider of mashup solutions for the enterprise, today announced the opening of a new office in Tokyo, Japan. Macaraeg, an industry veteran who successfully established several U.S.-based enterprise software companies in Asia throughout his career, has been named as Kapow's General Manager, Japan.

"Over the past two years we have experienced a steady uptick of interest in our mashup and web scraping software in the Asia-Pacific region, and have acquired NTT DoCoMo and KDDI as customers," said Stefan Andreasen, founder and CEO of Kapow Technologies. "The timing is right to formalize our operations in the region, and consequently, we're pleased to have Fred Macaraeg to lead our efforts. He comes to Kapow Technologies with more than two decades of experience in technology companies that sell and operate in Japan, and knows what it takes to expand market awareness and develop channel partnerships throughout the continent."

During the past three years, Macaraeg was Japan Country Manager for CRM software supplier RightNow Technologies, where he managed partner and channel relationships, and hired sales and technical staff to keep pace with the company's growth. While at RightNow, Macaraeg signed strategic partnerships with major system integrators including CTC, Ashisuto and Oki Software. During his three-year tenure, Macaraeg grew the company's business in Japan fourfold which included a seven-figure deal with Ricoh, Ltd. Prior to RightNow, Macaraeg was Regional Vice President of Japan and Asia at Pivotal Corporation, where he managed all operations and sales distribution channels in Japan, the People's Republic of China, South Korea and Singapore. Before Pivotal, he held a similar role for Baan Company's front-office software division. Macaraeg spent the first fifteen years of his career in operational, sales and technical roles at companies including Wyle Laboratories, Kubota and Prime Computer. He earned a B.S. at the University of California, Los Angeles.

"Web 2.0 technologies are becoming very hot in Japan and throughout Asia because they can be leveraged to more easily serve the burgeoning wireless market in addition to traditional Internet users," said Macaraeg. "And because Kapow Technologies has a novel way to mashup content, applications and services on mobile devices as easily as on PCs, we believe there is a huge market opportunity in the region."
