Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

XAware's Upgraded SOA Solution XA-Suite 4.3 Released
Features Enhanced Graphical Views And Drag-And-Drop Capabilities

XAware announced the release of XA-Suite 4.3 . The latest version of XAware’s flagship Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solution features enhanced graphical views and drag-and-drop capabilities, allowing users to quickly and easily configure and reuse business components, and decreasing time spent on development and maintenance of business services. XA-Suite 4.3 applies to many applications and markets including insurance, financial, banking, government and healthcare.

“With input from our customers, we have incorporated some extremely compelling features into our latest product release,” explains Tim Harvey, CEO of XAware. “We believe that we have raised the bar with the improved productivity and collaboration capabilities in Version 4.3.”

The new features include:
* XA-Designer Graphical view - XAware’s XA-Suite 4.3 features several significant upgrades. The first is a simplified main window making it much faster to configure services. The new format encourages reuse of XAware’s BizComponents TM, and improves usability with new drag-and-drop capabilities.

* Palette – A palette on the main window of XA-Designer 4.3 promotes reuse and further extends rapid configuration of services utilizing the drag-and-drop capabilities. A user can now drag-and-drop existing BizDocuments TM, BizComponents, functoids and XML snippets from the palette to the main view or from the project navigator to the palette. The palette can be further customized to show items that are most frequently used.

* XA-Tracer – XA-Designer 4.3 also features XA-Tracer, which allows the user to step through the application and observe the application flow as it is processed. XA-Tracer greatly simplifies troubleshooting. Input XML, log and execution results are displayed as processed for clarity.

* Process View – The process view gives users a read-only, graphical view of XAware applications. This view is modeled after UML activity diagrams and emphasizes relationships between components and the logic that they contain.

* BizDocument Generator – XA-Designer 4.3 has a built in BizDocument Generator that produces executable XML documents directly from XML schemas, preserving schema-based metadata. The BizDocument Generator maintains metadata “links” to schema elements and allows users to more easily incorporate error handling and a BizDocument description, promoting reuse.

Other improvements to XA-Suite 4.3 include XML colorization in execution results, properties view, schema properties and preferences configurable via menu options. The “Six Steps to a Service” cheat sheet, provided by XAware, outlines how to leverage the enhanced features of 4.3 to rapidly configure an application from schema to service.
