Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

BEA Systems' AJAX Survey
BEA is trying to understand the demand for AJAX, in all its forms

Bill Roth's WebLogic Blog

We need your help. My team is trying to understand the demand for AJAX, in all its forms. Could you take a few minutes and answer a short survey? We're also offering an incentive. By taking the survey, you will have a chance to receive a $100 Amazon gift certificate. (BEA employees are not eligible).

The survey is at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=12662795162

I recently have a talk at the University of Wisconsin Computer Science Department. It was part of a panel at theUniversity of Wisconsin Computer Science Department Database Group 30 year anniversary celebration. We were asked about what database schools should teach in the future.

In summary:

1. Leadership. The right kind of leadership can make people operate at a level above what they think they can achieve.

2. Ethics. We must be aware how our work can be used

3. Failure. Too much of the literature has a success bias. We need to teach students to fail, and learn from it.

4. Scaffolding and Ontologies. Describing things at a larger and larger scale.
