Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

The Future of AJAX is. . .XML?
Kurt Cagle To Speak at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East in New York City

While scripting frameworks such as script.aculo.us dominate the current AJAX landscape, there are signs that the next phase of development will be in the creation of XML binding models that will associate JavaScript functionality with XML structure.

That, anyway, is the contention by Kurt Cagle (pictured), author of some twenty books and several dozen articles about Web technologies, open source, Java, and .NET programming issues. Cagle intends to present his argument at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East in New York City, March 19-21, 2007.

This session will look at XBL2, XForms, and other bound and binding architectures and Cagle will show how these are establishing the bullwark of the next wave of programming.

Earlier this week SYS-CON Events announced the other "charter sponsors" of AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East, which included; Laszlo Systems (Diamond Sponsor), JackBe (Platinum Sponsor), Google (Gold Sponsor), Nexaweb (Gold Sponsor), Sun Microsystems (Silver Sponsor), Parasoft (Silver Sponsor), Lightstreamer (Exhibitor Plus Sponsor),  IT Mill (Exhibitor Plus Sponsor), and FrogLogic (Exhibitor Plus Sponsor).

OpenAjax Alliance Differs from Established Standards Bodies and Open Source Initiatives
The Alliance will purposely avoid competition with existing open standards and open source initiatives and instead will collaborate with and support any relevant open technology initiative.

The OpenAjax Alliance fills the AJAX interoperability gap in the industry. Other standards organizations such as W3C develop standards focused on what building-block features browsers must support, such as HTML, CSS, DOM, SVG, and JavaScript/ECMAScript. The OpenAjax Alliance addresses a technology layer above these browser formats, where the alliance defines "OpenAjax" specifications and best practices such that multiple AJAX toolkits will coexist and interoperate with the same AJAX-powered application.

Membership
To date, more than 50 organizations have joined the OpenAjax Alliance, including:
