Press Release SYS-CON Announces Two New "AJAXWorld University Bootcamp" Dates
Back by popular demand just three months after its debut in Silicon Valley; led by AJAX/Web 2.0 Expert Dion Hinchcliffe
Jan. 10, 2007 08:45 AM
Early-bird registration for the AJAXWorld University Bootcamp opened at: AJAXWorld University Bootcamp is a compelling, intensive, one-day, hands-on training program that will teach Web developers, Web designers, and other Web professionals how to build high-quality AJAX applications from beginning to end. The Bootcamp application, a photo-sharing application, will be fully functioning by the end of the day and attendees will be able to take their application home to experiment further. Attendees will also take home all of the courseware, which provides additional, "stretch" work that the attendee can use to further deepen his or her understanding of AJAX. The AJAXWorld University Bootcamp is an interactive, in-depth and highly practical crash course. This means that the instructor lectures for the minimum amount of time necessary and then takes the students rapidly and thoroughly through the paces of developing with AJAX using the latest techniques, libraries/frameworks, and best practices. Held on January 22, 2007, then again on March 19, 2007, the AJAXWorld University Bootcamp is the premier AJAX instructional program currently available anywhere. The curriculum is carefully designed to be the most efficient way to "fit all of AJAX in your head" using a structured and well-organized approach to learning about one of the new major, highly in-demand techniques in Web development. The Bootcamps will be taught by AJAXWorld University instructor, Dion Hinchcliffe, renowned AJAX architect, developer, author, and speaker, who is also the founding editor and editor-in-chief of AJAXWorld Magazine and editor of the upcoming bestseller from SYS-CON Books, Real-World AJAX: Secrets of the Masters. Using Ruby on Rails, Bootcamp attendees will gain a deep understanding of the underlying principles of AJAX including DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XMLHttpRequest. They will also learn how to build AJAX-friendly Web services including using JSON. Attendees will learn about the current state of AJAX frameworks, including their weaknesses and strengths. Throughout the day, attendees will build on each previous learned skill, learn to use script.aculo.us and prototype effects and then dig into the popular and important Dojo Framework. Not only will attendees use Dojo's widgets and other features, they will also learn useful tips for debugging, troubleshooting, and tuning AJAX applications. Knowledge of and ability to work with HTML and CSS are helpful, as are basic JavaScript skills. Since good AJAX programmers are currently hard for employers to find, the Bootcamp will arm attendees with the chance to leapfrog their peers. Hinchcliffe will also review with AJAXWorld Bootcamp attendees the growing trend of in-browser mashups, combining - entirely on the fly - sets of AJAX components, JavaScript snippets, and Flash widgets from all over the Web into a new set of often user-generated ad hoc software. "AJAX and AJAX-like approaches are almost certainly forever superseding our desktop operating systems as the place we develop and use most of our software applications - consumer and business both," says Hinchcliffe, whose last AJAXWorld University Bootcamp in October 2006 was attended by 100+ developers. The attendees ranged from the CEO of a major AJAX player to some who were completely new to AJAX. "Happy AJAXing," says Hinchcliffe to all would-be Bootcamp 2007 attendees, "and hope to see you in January in New York City!"
