Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Adobe Continues Mobile Push; Buys Vector Graphics Technology Developed by Actimagine
Today more than 115 million Flash technology-enabled devices have shipped worldwide

"We look forward to accelerating the existing momentum of Flash and increasing its reach and capabilities in mass market mobile phones," said Andre Pagnac (pictured), CEO of Actimagine, as Adobe today announced the acquisition of Actimagine's vector graphics technology.

"We are very excited about the agreement with Adobe," Pagnac added.

When combined with Flash, Actimagine's software video codec, Mobiclip, should deliver "most enjoyable" user experiences, he said.

"Adobe is committed to providing the technologies needed by operators worldwide to develop, deliver, and display engaging mobile experiences on a broad set of mobile devices," said Al Ramadan, senior vice president, Mobile and Device Solutions Business Unit at Adobe. "With the acquisition of Actimagine's vector graphics technology, we will be able to further enhance the most popular, high-volume mobile and consumer devices as well as broaden our reach into emerging markets."

With Flash technology already established on high-end mobile handsets around the world, the acquisition will extend the reach of Adobe mobile technologies, including Adobe Flash Lite, to high-volume, mass market devices.

The Flash ecosystem includes the Flash authoring tool, Flash Lite player runtime and an established community of more than one million designers and developers. Flash Lite, Ramadan notes, can reduce deployment costs and deliver content and interfaces three to five times faster than competing solutions.

Today more than 115 million Flash technology-enabled devices have shipped worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, Actimagine will also incorporate existing and future versions of Adobe Flash Lite technology into their service offerings.

How come this article makes no mention of financial terms of the deal??

I wonder if the pending release of Microsoft Vista could cause a delay in PC and related applications spending - if so that could negatively impact Adobe's revenue for the next few quarters...just a thought.
