The 100% open source widgetry is the first and only Apache Hadoop distribution for both Windows and Linux

Hortonworks said Tuesday that it's put Apache Hadoop on Windows with its new enterprise-grade, production-tested Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) for Windows. The 100% open source widgetry is the first and only Apache Hadoop distribution for both Windows and Linux. There's an identical user experience on both and Windows-based organizations can leverage the power of Big Data natively, giving the enterprise more deployment choices. The company says it let organizations capture, process and share data in any format at scale and move their Hadoop applications between on-premise and cloud deployments via Hortonworks HDInsight Service. The platform is designed to integrate with existing Microsoft data management and analytics tools. All code for HDP on Windows will be contributed back to the Apache Software Foundation. Hortonworks, which has a long-term collaboration with Microsoft, is betting on community-driven open source. According to IDC, Windows Server owned 73% of the market last year. A beta release is available now for download from Hortonworks. Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
