We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Terracotta Appoints CEO in Response to Rapid Growth
Company Welcomes Amit Pandey

Terracotta, Inc., a leader in delivering groundbreaking solutions for enterprise Java scalability, today announced that it has appointed former Network Appliance executive Amit Pandey to the position of CEO. As the company’s enterprise-class solutions continue to rapidly gain traction in the open source and commercial software arenas, Pandey joins forces with Ari Zilka, Terracotta founder and CTO, to take its clustered Java Virtual Machine (JVM) technology mainstream.

“Enterprises with Java applications should be excited,” said Peter Fenton, general partner of Benchmark Capital. “Organizations of any size can make their Java applications scalable, fault tolerant, and highly available without requiring any changes to their application. Terracotta is poised for explosive growth, and Amit is ideally suited to leading the charge.”

Terracotta is quickly gaining acceptance among leading companies in financial services, retail, telco, and Internet services and is expanding partnerships within the open source community.

“What attracted me to Terracotta was the simplicity,” said Pandey. “Terracotta is drop-in technology that is easy to deploy and makes all Java applications enterprise-class. Our technology has industry shifting ramifications, because it requires no coding. We make open source software enterprise-ready, so it’s a viable alternative to many commercial solutions.”

Terracotta allows multiple servers to appear and act like a “clustered” server. By clustering at the JVM level, Terracotta injects clustering and caching into the Java runtime environment to establish total fault tolerance, linear scalability, and high availability for Java applications. Terracotta dramatically accelerates time-to-market and drives down total cost of ownership of enterprise-class Java applications for any organization by eliminating performance tuning from the development lifecycle.

As Terracotta’s CEO, Pandey is largely focused on applying his experience in managing rapid growth to leverage the sweeping business opportunities afforded by the company’s clustered JVM technology.

Prior to joining Terracotta, Pandey was vice president and general manager of the Data Management Business Unit at Network Appliance, where he helped develop and execute a plan that led to accelerated growth and revenue of several hundred million dollars. Earlier, Pandey was vice president and general manager of Network Appliance’s Content Delivery Business Unit. He led that unit into the Enterprise Content Security market and helped establish it as the industry market share leader. Before Network Appliance, he served as a senior manager for McKinsey & Company, focusing on technology strategy and operations effectiveness with Fortune 500 companies.

Pandey holds master’s degrees in Management and Engineering from MIT and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Brown University. He grew up in Gaborone, Botswana and currently lives in Portola Valley, California.
