Michael J. Gopin Offers Winter Driving Tips
As Winter Creates Dangerous Weather Across the World, Insurance Companies Are Urging Motorists to Take Precautions When Driving in the Snow; El Paso, Texas Personal Injury Attorney Michael J. Gopin Discusses Ways to Reduce Accident Risk

EL PASO, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 02/06/13 -- Although severe weather has already begun to cause concern among American drivers, a recent report from The Telegraph reveals that snow and ice are road hazards that should be recognized throughout the world. While wintry weather is known to raise collision risk considerably, the article notes that those who fail to take certain precautions -- such as clearing snow from a car before driving -- are "accidents waiting to happen." As a personal injury attorney in El Paso, Texas, Michael J. Gopin notes that residents in his area are less likely to face such hazards; however, he urges drivers to always stay aware of defensive driving measures to reduce the potential risk of accidents.

According to Michael J. Gopin, "Although El Paso has excellent year round weather, always be careful when driving during poor weather conditions." He also notes that drivers who are used to more temperate weather may not be used to driving in the snow, making it even more important for them to review precautionary measures. Doing so could help Texas residents drive more safely if a snow storm does occur in the state, or if they are driving in a colder out-of-state region.

Following a similar sentiment, Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, explains in the article that drivers who are not prepared to drive in the snow tend to overreact of the dangers they face, raising the risk factor even further. Douglas warns that one of the most common mistakes drivers make in these conditions is failing to remove all the snow from their car before taking to the road. He states, "Not only can they see little of their surroundings but chunks of snow and ice fly off as they drive, posing a serious risk to pedestrians and other drivers."

The Telegraph covers a few additional tips for drivers who need to take a second look at their operational skills in the snow. While they are all important to follow, Michael J. Gopin highlights the suggestions to use brakes gently and to choose the most suitable gear for the conditions.

Although many of the driving accident cases that Michael J. Gopin represents at his legal firm address the cost of personal injury and damage resulting from collisions, he explains that there is much more at stake when it comes to not driving safely. Gopin concludes, "Be a defensive driver and the life you save may be your own."
