Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

UniPrint™ launches UniPrint Infinity 8.1

UniPrint (www.uniprint.net), the leader in printing virtualization, today released UniPrint Infinity 8.1, the newest version of UniPrint Infinity, the industry’s first printer-vendor independent managed print solution for any computing environment. UniPrint Infinity 8.1 includes a new statistics module and print document archiving functionality that allow companies to securely back up print data and validate ROI. UniPrint has coupled this new functionality with its universal printer driver technology to create a fully secure, pull printing solution for virtualized environments that enables printing anywhere, anytime and on any device.

UniPrint Infinity 8.1’s statistics module provides valuable enterprise-wide insight into the printing activities of a company. Organizations can track and store print-related usage information, including the user ID, domain, printer ID, file name, date and number of print jobs in black and white or color, in the statistics data base. With this added knowledge and visibility, managers will be able to improve data security and compliance, better manage printing costs and prepare for the company’s future printing needs by examining the printing behavior of employees and letting the results inform future printing architecture decisions.

“Compliance, security and cost-cutting are key issues at the top of the agenda for C-level executives,” said Dinesh Srirangpatna, Research Manager, Hardcopy Usage Research Practice at IDC. “According to an IDC forecast, the mobile worker population will account for 37% of the worldwide workforce by 2015. This change in work styles brings the need for greater printing security into laser focus, and as the printing industry seeks greater surveillance over its costs, output and behaviors, demand for features that make it easier for managers to stay in line with regulations, protect sensitive data and gain more control over operating expenses will continue to increase.”

UniPrint Infinity 8.1 also automatically archives print documents in a compressed Portable Document Format (PDF) to a location designated by the network administrator, resulting in a streamlined archiving process with no user interaction. By allowing print data to be stored in a designated location in the data center, UniPrint Infinity 8.1 gives organizations an increased level of security and control over their data. Along with this added security functionality, UniPrint Infinity 8.1 now offers advanced PDF-based security options and the use of vPad user-authenticated pull printing for secure print release.

“In a virtualized, server-based or cloud environment, UniPrint is the only universal printer driver solution that offers a single printer driver, a statistics module, a secure print device and back-up and archiving capabilities,” said Arron Fu, VP of Software Development at UniPrint. “From a security and governance angle, all these capabilities come together to culminate in a printing environment which provides unparalleled security while also simplifying IT management.”

UniPrint Infinity 8.1 also supports the industry’s move toward BYOD/mobile printing by enabling native printing on any Apple iOS device to any printer. UniPrint Infinity is licensed on a concurrent user basis.
