I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

EarthLink to Expand Cloud Services Using Virtustream’s Enterprise Class Cloud Software

Virtustream, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise class cloud software and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to telecom operators and enterprises, today announced that EarthLink, a leading IT services and communications provider, will expand its IT services offerings by deploying Virtustream’s xStream enterprise cloud software solution.

After evaluating numerous cloud provisioning and management software products, EarthLink determined that Virtustream’s enterprise cloud expertise and xStream software’s unique capabilities made them the best selection to further enhance EarthLink’s cloud offerings. By deploying xStream in its cloud services platform, EarthLink will offer SMB customers an expanded set of enterprise class cloud services for mission-critical applications that require security, pricing and application performance SLAs, complex network routing, compliance, resource pooling and business continuity. These new services, which EarthLink plans to launch in the coming months, will be powered by Virtustream µVMTM technology and enable customers to optimize their cloud spend by only paying for what they use.

“With the xStream cloud software deployed as part of our next-generation cloud architecture, we will more efficiently serve our clients in the SMB market,” said Mike Toplisek, executive vice president of sales and marketing for EarthLink. “We can bring additional economies of both scale and skills to our small and mid-sized clients, a privilege once afforded by large enterprises only. Our broader set of managed cloud services will continue to reduce customer need for dedicated IT hardware, software and or even personnel to support new applications.”

With the combination of its robust nationwide network, next generation cloud architecture and xStream cloud management platform, EarthLink is positioned to advance the cloud services it provides to SMB customers. EarthLink has four data centers on its network today and is currently deploying the Virtustream xStream solution in its existing Rochester, NY center. In addition, EarthLink is bringing new cloud centers online in Dallas, Chicago, San Jose, and Miami in the first half of 2013 and will deploy xStream in those centers as well.

“This is a very strategic move by EarthLink. The flexibility and pricing model that the cloud provides enables EarthLink to provide top-tier services to small and medium size businesses,” said Kevin Reid, chief executive officer and chief technology officer of Virtustream. “By combining our xStream software with their managed services and physical network, EarthLink can advance the bundled solutions it offers their clients.”
