Landing In Times Square, "Run Away, Woman" Embraces A Wild Taste of Life

NEW YORK, Jan. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- You may suffer from the glass ceiling stuff at work, watching more and more of your friends getting married and having kids while you're still trying to find your Mr. Right, regardless of the probability of success of busy dates. You want to make everyone satisfied, while falling to meet your own expectations. You throw yourself into tons of desserts to get lost, but then reality gets tougher and rougher when you return sober. You deserve a treat.

If any of this sounds familiar, then "Run Away, Woman" from Shanghai Mandy Television Culture Co. Ltd. is a must-see for you. Directed by Dora Dong, the leading figure of Chinese female directors, the film landed in Times Square this January, and will launch a world premier on March 8th. It also marks a new era of Chinese filmmakers marching out into the world.

Feminism is a burgeoning topic in China, especially among educated women. "Run Away, Woman" depicts five young women who are either frustrated in work or love, who escape from the city and go into the wild to find their true selves and to pursue freedom. They come from various backgrounds with distinct characters, experiencing different pressures. "The story captures the images of Chinese women of today faithfully and accurately, how they live, what they are going through, how they feel and what they're longing for," Dora Dong, the director, commented on her work. "The film bears more significance on societal level, and can be regarded as the dynastic history of Chinese women in this era."

Not only is the trailer playing in Times Square, the film is also a bombshell in China. As a newly emerging power in the world, the rapid development there soon drew people away from traditional a lifestyle. The change has been so sharp and devastating that it has left people perplexed about life. The role of women in society has been pushed to the front of this tide of change and debate, which is the epitome of some developing countries.

China has been exporting varying interpretations of the female image for a long time, from "Raise The Red Lantern" and "The Story of Qiu Ju" from Zhang Yimou to "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" by Ang Lee, the change and evolution of that image and the situation of women there is clear to see. However, the lack of female films in recent years has triggered another around of change in strategy, including creativity, production and marketing. "Run Away, Woman" elaborates on the situation of contemporary women with its novel idea. Instead of using Kung fu or epic historical tales, the film pioneers a new style for audiences, which could blaze a new path in film for the next generation. A lot of thrilling scenarios, such as chases by wolves and characters being buried in sand, will surely arouse empathic responses from audiences. Meanwhile, the vast magnificent landscape of Gobi will bring about an unprecedented viewing experience, leaving audiences, who will most likely be geographical amateurs, in suspense, guessing where the action is taking place. The production team is composed of artists from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany, Austria, Singapore and the US, and most of them are women.

"These ladies are strong and lovely in the movie and someday I hope I could do that too. The modern world has shaped women into similar archetypes, and they are gradually losing themselves, which pains me," One viewer said after a preview. "Being equal doesn't mean you have to take on responsibility that you cannot handle; but doing your best, being your own master, holding your cards- that's what I think a modern woman should be."

The breathtaking landscape is definitely a bonus to the movie, the story itself has a compelling core. It's a cure for modern women. Let the combination of China's magical vistas 3D audio effects take you to a taste of wild.
