Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Ottawa's Lixar IT is Connecting Cars

OTTAWA, Jan. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Lixar IT Inc. has been working in stealth mode with Delphi and Verizon for the last nine months to develop and deliver a first-in-class Vehicle Diagnostics system that connects your mobile device to your car in the blink of an eye.  This innovative new cloud-based automotive connectivity service, announced by Delphi and Verizon at CES, has received glowing reviews and won a "CES 2013 Editor's Choice Award from Popular Mechanics".

"For a long time now, our industry has had the vision of a connected car.  We believe this product will significantly accelerate the pace at which cars on the road become connected," said Kathy Winter, Vice President Advance Engineering and Software and Services, Delphi Electronics and Safety.  "We are excited about the attention the product garnered throughout the CES Show and will build on this momentum in our successful launch in the coming weeks."

Vehicle Diagnostics works through a cloud system that connects your car to your smartphone (or internet browser), showing precisely where your car is, as well as options to secure it and check its vitals.

Consumers can now quickly lock & unlock doors, locate, track and monitor vehicles via mobile devices. The Delphi car connectivity service enables drivers to carry out any of the following features remotely:

  • Use your smartphone, laptop or tablet as a key fob for your car regardless of where you are to help when you've locked your keys in your car.
  • Connect your smart phone to your car via Bluetooth for key fob commands when in locations like a parking garage.
  • Easily locate and access your family cars anywhere, any time.
  • Monitor vehicle status.
  • Diagnose the vehicle's engine health.
  • Receive alerts for driving behavior and vehicle performance issues.
  • Set up geo-fences and receive alerts for entry and exit.
  • Live tracking.
  • Auto trip logs.

"Working with Delphi and Verizon on this cutting-edge innovative cloud-based auto connectivity project has been truly exciting for Lixar," said Bill Syrros, Lixar IT CEO. "The Lixar team was at CES last week.  We all walked away from the show inspired by the overwhelming reaction to the Vehicle Diagnostics service."

Vehicle Diagnostics by Delphi will be available for sale in the USA through Verizon Wireless in the coming weeks. To see more about the device, please visit connectedcar.delphi.com.
