Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Safelite® Group Wins 2012 Alliance Award For Supply Chain Excellence From World Trade 100 And SMC3

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. and MARKHAM, Ontario, Jan. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Robocom Systems International announced today that supply chain partner Safelite® has won the 2012 Alliance Award in the Warehousing category.

The Alliance Award, co-sponsored by World Trade 100 and SMC3 is designed to recognize excellence in supply chain performance resulting from the close cooperation and collaboration of supply chain partners. Under the Warehousing category Safelite® was honored for overhauling its supply chain function to increase part availability, accuracy and quality, thereby lowering glass acquisition costs.

Safelite® purchases glass parts from all over the world. The company must deliver those parts to its 475 store locations and 170 mobile pros in all 50 states so that the right glass part can be at the right place at the right time – often within 24 hours of when the customer called to schedule a service appointment.

Using sophisticated planning tools from BarloWorld and Cirris Logistics, Safelite® mapped out a new hub and spoke warehouse system. Upon opening those new warehouses and distribution centers, Safelite incorporated innovative technology and tools from a variety of partners, including a Warehouse Management System from Robocom Systems. As a result, the company has improved part availability by 70 percent and reduced costs by $9.2 million annually.

"At Safelite, enhancing our supply chain is just another way we strive to create a superior customer experience," said Dino Lanno, senior vice president of supply chain and manufacturing. "We thank our business partners who have worked with us to make it happen and we thank World Trade 100 and SMC3 for this recognition."

Fred Radcliffe, President of Robocom said, "We are proud of the partnership that we have developed with Safelite®. Our products improve accuracy, increase productivity, reduce transportation costs and provide essential information to Supply Chain Managers and Executives. We congratulate Safelite® on winning this award and thank them for recognizing Robocom as one of their supply chain partners."
