Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Remedy Informatics Selected as Registry Solution by the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT)

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Remedy Informatics, Inc., the leading provider of registries for blood and marrow transplantation centres around the world, announced that the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) has selected Remedy's Mosaic™ Platform as the technology solution for EBMT's Registry Upgrade Project.

EBMT is upgrading its current EBMT Registry to meet the evolving data management and analysis needs of its member centres, national registries and other partners to facilitate increased collaboration among researchers focused on EBMT's mission to improve patient care and clinical practice in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

"Our registry has been an important tool for BMT researchers throughout Europe for decades, and we have recognized the need to upgrade our registry to better meet the evolving needs of our member centres, scientists and collaborating institutions," said Professor Alejandro Madrigal, president of the EBMT. "In our search for new registry technology for our upgrade initiative, we were very impressed with the flexibility and ease of use of Remedy's registry software. Having a registry that incorporates reporting interfaces, user-friendly data visualisation and analytical tools will enable us to deliver substantial benefits to our member BMT researchers and clinicians looking to improve patient outcomes."

Remedy's registries are built on its flagship Mosaic Platform, which offers the industry's most advanced clinical informatics solution. The Mosaic Platform offers highly configurable, user-friendly registries that evolve as a BMT centre's research needs change over time, without the need to engage IT departments or outside technology consultants. The Mosaic Platform will enable the EBMT Registry to broaden its impact on quality patient outcomes as it allows clinical researchers to gain a 360-degree view of the data collected from more than 500 participating BMT centres throughout the world. Researchers and physicians will then be able to analyse the data using powerful pattern recognition and data visualisation tools to further their efforts to improve the quality of care.

"We are thrilled to be selected to partner with EBMT as they work to improve patient outcomes of haematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT) throughout Europe and their member countries," said Gary Kennedy, founder and CEO of Remedy Informatics. "The EBMT Registry has been a valuable resource for BMT researchers for more than four decades and we are confident that the power and versatility of our registry software will aid EBMT as they work to expand further the size and value of their HSCT database. Ultimately, the entire European BMT community will benefit as EBMT member centres, collaborators and outside groups use our software to tangibly, measurably, and permanently improve the effectiveness of their care and patient-centred research."

The EBMT Registry is a collection of data from patients undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplants used in the treatment of leukemia, lymphomas, genetics diseases, etc. and has collected data since the early 1970s. It is the single largest data source of its kind in Europe. The Registry holds more than 400,000 transplant registrations, from roughly 50 countries around the world. The main function of the EBMT Registry is to serve as a source of data for clinical research aimed at improving patient outcomes. Established in 1974, the EBMT is a non-profit organisation that is committed to serving scientists and physicians involved in clinical bone marrow transplantation and aid them in sharing their experiences and developing cooperative studies.

With its ComprehensiveBMT™ registry product, Remedy has established itself as the leader in BMT research informatics. Leading BMT research institutions have selected ComprehensiveBMT to help them expand their efforts to improve BMT discoveries and patient outcomes, including the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada, the University of Utah's Huntsman Cancer Institute, Mercy Healthcare's Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  ComprehensiveBMT enables BMT centres to aggregate, map and harmonise BMT data from EHRs, existing databases and other clinical information systems and analyse their data with powerful pattern recognition tools. ComprehensiveBMT also includes user-friendly tools for reporting data to the CIBMTR AGNIS database, producing dashboards and reports on patient outcomes, and facilitating FACT accreditation.
