Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Layer 7 Hires Telco API Expert as Director of Product Marketing for Industry Solutions

Layer 7 Technologies, a provider of API management and mobilization tools for the new open enterprise, today announced the addition of Ross Garrett as director of product marketing. In this role, Garrett will be responsible for positioning Layer 7’s products across a range of market verticals and supporting continued growth through solution-oriented business development. Garrett will also help drive strategic API initiatives for the company’s telco customers as they look to new flexible and secure ways of collaborating with enterprise and consumer products.

Garrett brings more than eight years of experience in the telco industry, advising mobile operators as they convert their network services into open platforms. Evangelizing initiatives such as GSMA’s OneAPI, he has counseled carriers on how to be more open to partners and accessible to developer communities, helping them to unlock new business opportunities in the process.

“APIs are becoming the foundation upon which the new hybrid enterprise is built, and all industries must continue to pursue an open strategy to stay ahead of the curve,” said Dimitri Sirota, chief strategy officer at Layer 7. “Ross brings deep knowledge and comprehensive experience in helping telcos enable and optimize their APIs for partners and developers alike, and brings the skills needed as we transition into solution-driven engagements.”

Garrett most recently served as vice president of sales and marketing with Sentaca. Prior to that, he led product management for Aepona, Inc., guiding product strategy while driving business development and helping the company earn customer success and multiple awards in the telco API business. He began his career with MobileCohesion Ltd as a systems engineer and technical product manager. He holds a BSc in computer science from the University of Ulster.

“Mobile devices are increasingly the preferred way to consume content, and interact with enterprise services, with APIs providing the leading edge for development and innovation,” said Garrett. “To keep pace with this burgeoning API economy, telcos – and all industries – must choose to participate, by opening up more and more. Layer 7 is uniquely positioned to bridge enterprise mobility with the latest telephony and contextual APIs, and without compromising data and network security.”

About Layer 7 Technologies

Layer 7 provides API building blocks for the new open enterprise. The company’s products help nearly 300 organizations worldwide open APIs to developer communities, securely connect applications to cloud services, expose internal information assets to mobile apps and bridge departments and partners through SOA style integration. Layer 7 is the only API vendor to have been named a Gartner MQ leader and Forrester Wave leader. The company was named the 183rd fastest growing public or private technology company in 2012 by Deloitte.
