Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Stent Market to Recover With New Product Introductions: Reports Kalorama

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 12/26/12 -- The global market for coronary stents is projected to recover from its recent decline due to new product innovations, exceeding $6 billion by 2017, according to a recent report from healthcare market research publisher Kalorama Information. Despite the generally difficult global economic climate and intense competition among stent manufacturers, the stent market is expected to grow in the next several years, although at a slower pace. In its new report, "The World Market for Stents (Drug-Eluting and Bare Metal Product Markets in US, EU, Japan, India, China and ROW)," Kalorama Information finds that market growth will result from an increase in the utilization of stents in interventional cardiology, fueled by a growing prevalence of coronary heart disease worldwide and the introduction of new improved devices to the market.

Several new technologies, such as bioresorbable stents, bifurcation and biodegradable polymers stents, are currently in development and projected to enter most major markets in the next years. Such new devices, especially the bioresorbable stents, have the potential to eliminate the negative issues of durable polymer stents, and are therefore expected to bring about a significant shift in the treatment of coronary heart disease, increasing the demand for stents.

"In particular, bioresorbable stents are expected to be welcomed in the treatment of coronary heart disease by both physicians and patients, substantially easing patients' discomfort of having a permanent metallic implant in their body," said analyst Adriana Rusu, author of this report.

According to the report, the first bioresorbable stent to reach the market was developed by Abbott Laboratories -- the leading player in the coronary stents market -- and launched in several markets, including Europe, in September 2012. Besides Abbott, several other companies are also developing bioresorbable stents, employing various technological approaches.

Kalorama Information's report, "The World Market for Stents (Drug-Eluting and Bare Metal Product Markets in US, EU, Japan, India, China and ROW)," examines in detail these new technologies, as well as the entire global coronary stents industry, its structure and major trends affecting it. Revenue forecasts at the global and regional level and profiles of various competitors are also included in the report.
