Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

National Sleep Survey Pulls Back The Covers On How We Doze And Dream
Two-Thirds Fail To Get Restful Sleep Most Nights

COSTA MESA, Calif., Dec. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- If you're counting sheep at night, chances are you're doing it on your side, in your pajamas, and between 10:00-11:00 on a Sunday night, according to a new national sleep survey conducted by the home furnishings retailer Anna's Linens.

Timed to coincide with National Sleep Day, January 3, 2013, more than 3,700 people took part in the countrywide survey that examined a number of sleep-related topics, ranging from what night provides the most restful sleep to how our dreams stack up against our friends'.

Among the many findings from Anna's Linens' research department, the report reveals that most of us wear pajamas to bed (74% vs. 8% who sleep naked), we fail to recall our dreams in the morning, we sleep on our sides (74%), and we have a good chance of sharing a bed with someone who snores (47%).

When it comes to quality of sleep, nearly two-thirds (65%) said they get a "restful night's sleep" only three nights or less per week.  Ten percent said they get a restful night sleep every night, while one-quarter said they sleep restfully five to six nights per week.

Not surprisingly, the night providing the least restful sleep is Sunday, followed by Monday.  Friday night provides the most restful sleep, followed closely by Saturday, according to the survey.

Related to a restful night sleep is the fact that nearly half of the respondents who share a bed indicated they sleep with someone who snores (47%).  Yet, out of those who do share a bed, nearly twice as many (63% v. 37%) said they probably wouldn't get a better night's sleep if they slept alone.

"Since bedding makes up such a big part of what we're known for, we thought a great way to help our customers get a better night's sleep is to better understand how they sleep at night," said Alan Gladstone, founder and CEO of Anna's Linens.  "And apparently, one answer is: Not very well on Sunday night."

Anna's Linens is the nation's 14th largest home textiles retailer, specializing in bedding, window coverings, home decor, and bath and kitchen accessory items.

The survey also found few of us fail to remember our dreams from the night before. More than half the respondents said they're able to recall less than one-quarter of their dreams, while approximately 10 percent said they were able to recall nearly all their dreams from that night's sleep.

And though most have trouble recalling their dreams, nearly 70 percent said their dreams were not as interesting as their friends' dreams.  But when it comes to the nature of the dreams, 44 percent felt their dreams were "more bizarre" than their friends'.

As far as how we sleep, an overwhelming number choose to sleep on their side (74%), while 16 percent sleep on their stomach and 10 percent on their back.

"We were surprised 8 percent of our respondents admitted to sleeping naked," continued Gladstone.  "For that group, we suggest our 100 percent Egyptian cotton sheets.  They feel great against the skin."
