- Online Publishing Pioneer YUDU Joins Forces With The Salvation Army to Create Innovative, Digital Publication Community LONDON, Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Online publishing pioneer YUDU Media today announced a new partnership with The Salvation Army, the church and charity internationally recognized for helping people with all types of needs for nearly 150 years. The collaboration will allow YUDU to help The Salvation Army transform their UK-based newspapers into engaging, digital experiences, helping to increase the non-profit organization's reach around the globe further than ever before. The YUDU cloud-publishing platform was launched in 2007 and has since published over half a million publications for some of the largest brands and publishing houses in the world. The platform places its customers in complete control to publish content to the Web and also directly into branded apps on the App Store. After having a branded container app created by YUDU, customers are then able to use the cloud publishing platform to upload new content, add interactive elements and then publish directly into the apps that are "live" on the App Store or downloaded onto user's devices. According to YUDU CEO Richard Stephenson, YUDU's sophisticated, yet cost-effective, cloud publishing platform approach will give The Salvation Army the ability to create fully interactive, branded tablet and mobile reading experiences that will increase awareness with both current and new members, as well as generate return on investment. YUDU will regularly maintain The Salvation Army's newly designed app to keep it up-to-date and relevant. Here's how it works: In addition to the charity's traditional printed publication, The War Cry, digital subscriptions of the iconic magazine will now be sold in pubs, and on the streets of cities and towns across the U.K. Subscribers will be provided with an information card containing a unique digital code which provides access to a yearly digital subscription. Android, iPhone and tablet users can then download the free app and enter in the unique code to access their subscription. In addition, single titles and monthly subscriptions can be purchased through the app. Digital subscriptions also can be purchased directly through the app from the Apple Newsstand and through http://www.sp-s.co.uk/. "This new partnership will allow The Salvation Army to continue its evangelical tradition, but at the same time, give people a new way to access their newspapers in a format that's relevant to the digital technology available on the market today," Stephenson said. "It will also help them build up a stronger database and keep their organization ahead of the technology curve." "YUDU is helping us take that first step into the digital tablet world," said Martyn Croft, Chief Information Officer, The Salvation Army. "We are confident that our digital relationship with YUDU will not only be rewarding for both current and new Salvation Army supporters, but also for the many people around the globe who ultimately benefit from our organization's numerous programs and services. With the new app opening up additional distribution channels, we are anticipating great opportunities for our organization in the year to come."
