Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Pacnet Data Center Receives LEED Gold Certification
The Hong Kong CloudSpace2 Facility Is the First Data Center in Hong Kong to Achieve a Top Rating for Green Design Excellence

HONG KONG -- (Marketwire) -- 12/11/12 -- Pacnet announced today that it has been awarded the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System Gold Certification™ by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the company's newest data center, Hong Kong CloudSpace2 (HKCS2), located at Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, Hong Kong.

HKCS2, a Tier III data center built within the site of one of Pacnet's wholly-owned cable landing stations, is the first data center in Hong Kong to achieve this level of LEED certification. In order to achieve the required standards, Pacnet ensured that efficiency was central to every design decision, including minimizing water usage for landscape maintenance, to using solar-powered lighting and intelligent lighting control. Additionally, the cooling design achieves a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.5, helped by a highly-efficient, water-cooled chilled water system and computer room air conditioning units.

"Earning this recognition reaffirms Pacnet's unwavering commitment to our customers that goes beyond just delivering best-in-class integrated connectivity and managed services, but also our efforts towards more efficient and sustainable business operations," said Carl Grivner, Chief Executive Officer, Pacnet.

HKCS2 provides customers with direct access to Pacnet's EAC-C2C subsea cable network as well as high-speed connectivity to Pacnet's network of 24 data centers across the region. Launched in March 2012, customers in HKCS2 include some of the world's leading content providers, financial exchanges and technology firms.

"Pacnet's LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, USGBC. "The urgency of USGBC's mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Pacnet's CloudSpace2 data center, the first LEED GOLD certified data center in Hong Kong, serves as a prime example of just how much we can accomplish."

LEED is an internationally recognized rating system for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. The certification program, which was developed by USGBC in 2000, provides independent, third-party verification that a building, home or community was designed and built based on approaches targeted at attaining high performance in five key areas -- sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

HKCS2 is part of Pacnet's suite of premier data center facilities that are built to exacting standards to offer a high-availability environment ensuring the uninterrupted performance of mission-critical equipment. These facilities will exceed the high-power, high-performance and high-efficiency requirements of today's content-driven organizations and multi-site enterprises.
