Sentara Healthcare to Reduce Costs and Improve Care Delivery through Accelarad’s Cloud-Based Medical Imaging Solution

Accelarad, a leading provider of secure, cloud-based medical imaging solutions, and creators of SeeMyRadiology.com, announced today that Sentara Healthcare has selected its medical imaging solution to securely request, view, share and store medical images and documents throughout Sentara Hampton Roads’ advanced imaging centers and hospitals. A not-for-profit health system, Sentara operates more than 100 sites of care serving residents across Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

Using Accelarad’s collaborative medical image exchange network – an online, social media-like medical image sharing community for healthcare organizations and physicians – Sentara physicians can improve workflow, increase collaboration and potentially avoid unnecessary imaging studies. Sentara anticipates reducing time and administrative tasks associated with manually transporting hard copy films or images on CDs, meaning Sentara patients will benefit from having images important to diagnosis and treatment arrive before they do.

Built on a hub-and-spoke deployment model ideal for large hospitals and health systems, Accelarad’s platform enables care coordination across healthcare organizations, departments and physician practices. The solution will help physicians at Sentara speed diagnosis and treatment of patients and foster collaboration with referring physicians. As participating physicians within Sentara’s system invite colleagues to join the community, the network grows and becomes more valuable to both Sentara and physicians – ultimately leading to faster and easier communications to help achieve better patient outcomes.

In addition to reducing duplicate imaging studies for patients, Sentara also wanted to improve the efficiency of its trauma transfer and mammography patient cases. With Accelarad, referral facilities can now securely upload patient images and almost instantly send those images to Sentara along with documents in advance of the patient arriving to better prepare physicians, specialists and operating room staff. By moving to Accelarad’s cloud-based medical imaging solution, physicians have quick and secure access to medical images through any Internet-connected computer, mobile device or via the Accelarad iPhone® and iPad® app.

“Sentara is well known for being a leader in patient safety and quality innovation, so it was no surprise that they wanted a scalable and robust medical imaging solution to integrate with existing technology and processes while also securing benefits right out of the gate,” said Willie Tillery, CEO of Accelarad. “Sentara will not only experience a reduction in costs, but it will also enable its medical staff to improve workflows and in some cases ultimately provide quicker diagnosis and patient care.”

About Accelarad

Founded in 1999, Atlanta-based Accelarad, creators of SeeMyRadiology.com, makes it simple for healthcare organizations, physicians and patients to securely view, manage, share and store medical images and documents online. Intuitive and in tune with healthcare workflows, Accelarad’s scalable platform eliminates the costs, redundancies and administrative headaches of outmoded image transfer technology. The company’s robust, cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) platform empowers collaboration by allowing users to access and share medical images and documents from Internet-connected computers or mobile devices at any time, from anywhere. Accelarad’s true multi-tenant architecture supports today’s imaging needs, while also strategically positioning healthcare organizations to address the ongoing challenges of patient-centered, coordinated care.
