Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

GT Software Announces Fujitsu NetCOBOL for .NET v5.0 release

GT Software, a leading provider of enterprise modernization solutions today announced the release of Fujitsu NetCOBOL for .NET v5.0. This release enables COBOL developers to work on the latest version of Microsoft’s Visual Studio development environment with more flexibility and stability regardless of application. It also features updates that improve the user experience and deliver enhancements to the process of developing key business applications.

GT Software and the Fujitsu NetCOBOL development group work closely together to improve the suite of Fujitsu NetCOBOL compilers. With NetCOBOL for .NET v5.0, developers can develop and maintain their applications in Visual Studio 2012 and .NET Framework 4.5.

Some of the new features include the ability to use the “Go To Definition” command to navigate to a procedure, method, or variable definition; the ability to open copybooks specified in code from the editor; highlight all instances of a reference in code and display help topics corresponding to specific compile errors listed in the Error List window. In addition, the IntelliSense capability has been expanded to add COBOL reserved words and code snippets to the completion list.

With the new release, developers can create standalone COBOL applications and/or COBOL components for use with Microsoft® visual tools much more efficiently, for a wider array of environments and with more flexible packaging options.

“We are excited to release Fujitsu’s NetCOBOL for .NET v5.0 to the development community,” said Raul Menendez, Director of Product Management at GT Software. “Being able to provide more flexibility to modernize and enhance business-critical applications is very important to GT and our partner Fujitsu.”

For over three decades, GT Software has helped organizations optimize their technology investments by providing enterprise modernization solutions. A core division of GT Software focuses on enhancing and improving COBOL, future-proofing it by making it more flexible and open to newer platforms.
